Über Biked

The first step, I think, is to admit I have a problem. I now own not 1, not 2, but 3 bikes. In Germany, that is. 4 if you count the one I have in the US. While that may seem like allot, there is a perfectly good reason for the preponderance of bikes in my life. You see, I bought my first bike over the summer in Bonn, and it traveled with me to Hamburg (via Berlin). The second is a sassy little number I couldn't resist buying from my apartment's caretaker. Its technically uncomfortable small, but more than adequate for visitors - particularly if they are getting on my nerves. The third, well, that is my greatest success. I've been spending a fair amount of time in Berlin and given how much I enjoy both Berlin and bikes (particularly in the summer), I couldn't resist adding another member to the family. I'm hanging out in Berlin this week and I took a break from working this afternoon and headed to the Turkish market a short walk away. On the way I passed some upstanding gentleman standing on a bridge selling used bikes. I'm sure the bikes are not in any way ...um...stolen. Anyway, after a test ride and a employing my shark like bargaining skills (I wiggled the price from 80€ to 60€), I brought home my newest find. In fact, I just got back from a fantastic ride through Kreuzberg as the sun was setting. Though, I'm a little sad as I have no idea how I will concoct my next excuse to go bike shopping

Stumbled upon your blog through expat blogs. I laughed at the bike post :) I look forward to reading more about your adventures in Germany.
